VCF 5.0 SDDC Manager introduces Context-aware prechecks. As part of this new feature VCF 5.0 introduces a new precheck engine capable of granular precheck selections. SDDC Manager prechecks can be run for specific components and data returned is context-specific for that component. VCF 5.0 Framework is context-aware for the following components:
SDDC Manager
vCenter
NSX
ESXi
VxRail Manager
These Granular level prechecks are capable:
At each cluster level
At each domain level
Parallel accomplishment of prechecks across the domains is also supported with this feature.
1.Domain-level prechecks
Domain-level precheck functionality is preserved.
Customers can select whether they want to run a full domain-level precheck or a more narrow context precheck.
Functionality is available via API and UI.
2.Context-aware prechecks
This is new functionality. It allows users to associate individual prechecks with different contexts.
Customers can select one of the available contexts (SDDC Manager, vCenter, NSX, ESXi, VxRail Manager) and run only the prechecks associated with that context.
Functionality is available via API and UI.
Target Version & General Update Readiness prechecks:
The Target Version dropdown selection will only show target versions from VCF 5.x once SDDC Manager has been updated to 5.0. Prechecks are specific to the VCF target release.
A General Update Readiness precheck can be run anytime for:
An entire workload domain
A custom selection will run a precheck against a specific BOM component, cluster, or edge
Can be used as a health check on a periodic basis
DEMO: Context Aware Pre-Check
The following demonstrates this new Context Aware pre-check selecting the General Upgrade Readiness option. Running 2 different context aware pre-checks in parrallel across both the Mgmt & VI Workload Domains.
