VCF on VxRail – Useful Log File Information

The following log file info is especially useful during the implementation stage, new WLD or LCM tasks:

VxRail – marvin.log, loudmouth.log:

/var/log/vmware/marvin/tomcat/logs/marvin.log
/var/log/vmware/loudmouth/loudmouth.log

VC Conversion log:
cat /mystic/vxrail_vvd_vc_conversion.log

###Useful Log analysis commands###

# cat marvin.log
# tail -f marvin.log
# tail -f marvin.log | grep ERROR
# tail -f marvin.log | grep ERROR –color
# tail -n 100 marvin.log
# more marvin.log

VMware Cloud Builder – vcf-bringup.log:

SSH to CB and cd to the following location to access the VCF bring-up log files:

/opt/vmware/bringup/logs/vcf-bringup.log
/opt/vmware/bringup/logs/vcf-bringup-debug.log

Tasks details:

/var/log/vmware/vcf/bringup/vcf-bringup-debug.log

###Useful commands###

#tail vcf-bringup.log
#tail -f vcf-bringup.log
#tail -f vcf-bringup.log | grep ERROR
#cat vcf-bringup.log | grep ERROR
#grep “ERROR” /opt/vmware/bringup/logs/vcf-bringup.log | grep 2019-10-11 | wc -l

VMware SDDC Manager – solutionsmanager.log, domainmanager.log, operationsmanager.log, sddcManagerServer.log, lcm.log:

SSH to the SDDC manager VM as user ‘vcf’

/var/log/vmware/vcf/solutionsmanager/solutionsmanager.log
/var/log/vmware/vcf/domainmanager/domainmanager.log
/var/log/vmware/vcf/operationsmanager/operationsmanager.log
/var/log/vmware/vcf/sddc-manager-ui-app/sddcManagerServer.log
/var/log/vmware/vcf/lcm/lcm.log

View log messages:
tail -f /var/log/messages

Collect SDDC Mgr logs:
/opt/vmware/sddc-support/sos --sddc-manager-logs

 

ESXi Logs

tail -f /var/log/vmkernel.log

 

Notes:

Transfer Log Files via SCP:
scp ./sddcManagerServer.log ringd@10.10.0.10:/users/ringd/logs/

Find the directory of a specific log file e.g ‘marvin.log’:
find /* -name marvin.log
find /* -name *conversion.log
